National Take A White Guy To Lunch day 1984

I was stationed at a Navy Command in 1984. We received our messages from a relay center our communicatins was connected to This message was created by a radioman at the major communications relay station we received our messages from (or so I was told). This message was drafted in for some other celebratyory day and I don't recall which one.

When I found my copy of this message about 12 years ago, my wife told me not to publish it. Today, I figured "why not"?

Boot Hill Casino, an evaaluation of...

I am sad to report that Boot Hill Casino has a number of problems:
The Casino appears to operate as four different businesses; originally, it was six. In Vegas, the Casinos are true multifunction places that support each other. Sadly, this is not the case at the Boot Hill Casino.

The Casino operates the games but keeps the money for itself.

The restaurant originally did breakfast. In fact, they had a breakfast club and when you had a breakfast, they checked off your card. Have eight meals and you get a breakfast for free. They no longer serve breakfast and my last breakfast card merely takes up space in my wallet.

They seem to have gone to buffet vice off the menu for lunch. They put in a hot dog stand at the entrance but it was shut down last night. This suggests the hot dog stand did not appeal to the hungry or the gamblers and so they have “cut their losses” and have stopped supporting it. This is a pity.

Anthony Bourdain wrote that restaurants need managers with “nervous feet”. That is, a manager who is watching his floor and is going around asking customers how they like the dining experience, who see problems with the waitresses/waiters and the food before the customers can bitch.

It is better for the irate customers to tell the manager about problems than for the pissed off customers to tell their friends. They don’t have such a restaurant manager and folks like me must bitch, verbally and in blogs.

They originally had a bar and a Saloon. The bar used to have a fine selection of tap beers and now it is “lite” or “light”beers.(Do you remember when this was a country of Real Beer Drinkers?) They have a very limited selection of bottle beers. (Why don’t they carry Michelob Lager and why do they always assume that you want that watered down piss beer, “Michelob Ultra”, when you ask for a “Mic” or “Michelob Lager”?)

They had a Salon, which served LandShark on tap and other fine real beers. It was supposed to be open last night but was not.Several months ago, the Salon bar tender was serving the runners as much as the other bar was.

Maybe the bar and Saloon were not doing enough business so they laid off the Saloon keeper (bar tender) and cut the available product line. Maybe they dropped the available selection and that resulted in reduced demand?

They used to have a gift shop. This was shut down and that room turned into a room of high stakes slot machines. They didn’t get many customers at the gift show probably because the prices were too high!

There is a display of souvenirs in the snack bar.The prices seem much more reasonable.
An aside: the Casino was going to have vans going from the Casino around town. I live just off one major road and 30 feet from a semi-major road. If they drove down these streets, I would be willing to drink at the casino.

If I knew I didn’t need to drive home, I will be willing to drink at the Casino (I am normally the designated driver). If I drank at the Casino, I would be willing to gamble more as I get a “what the hell” attitude after several drinks. Then, I could be in trouble.

Thus, the Casino protects me from me and loses money. This strikes me as a win (for me) lose (for them) situation.I like it…

They need a complaint desk for all aspects of the Casino. If you go to the Players Desk, you just get to talk about gaming. They don’t talk about drinking or food. Nor will these "complaint people" direct you to the correct restaurant or bar mangers...

Does it begin when a new born takes that first breath?

Does it begin with the first observed movement of a fetus in the uterus (the "quickening")?

Does it begin when attachment to the uterine wall occurs?

Does it begin with fertilization?

Does it begin when an egg detaches from it's ovary and begins it's journey down a fallopian tube?

In Sunday School, I was taught life began with the first breath, as that was the soul entering the body. I also read that the quickening was when the soul entered the body and life began. I would like to know what the Bible and Koran says. Both are holy books and thus have more historical legitimacy than recent political statements.

Yoder: skinny dipping his skinny

Kansas Republican Congressman Kevin Yoder went skinny dipping in Israel. So, this fine House member thought it appropriate to display his member during a Federally Funded trip. That has got to have made a really good impression on the locals in Israel. An exhibitionist is not some one I want representing Kansas.

politically, I don't count for shit

A couple of weeks ago, I committed an act of futility: I went to send a letter to both of "my" Senators.

When I went to one Senator's office, it took several minutes for the person inside to unlock the door and see who had the gall to visit "their" Senator. I said "I have some letters". and handed them to the office dragon. She took them and said nothing. I got the feeling  she was a warrior poised to fight off an invading barbarian army.

I did not feel welcomed and I left with the odd feeling that she had called the cops and where were they? What the hell, I was merely another fucking tax payer.

Why do I  get the feeling I didn't count for shit?

I suppose it was because:

• I'm not well known, thus folks won't listen to my opinion,
• I'm not politically important and not someone important in a powerful political organization,
• I don't have any money and can't buy my way into the party by making big contributions,
• I'm not in the news industry and folks won't read what I write (this blog is widely ignored),
• I have no power and can't cause politicians trouble.

Thus, given these factors, I don't count for shit. I remember when politicians at least pretended to care what the taxpayers thought. I no longer have the naive belief.

I do know there are a great many like me...

On 20 September 2012, I got a nice reply from a letter I wrote Senator Roberts. This was quite the surprise since he stated he wanted the same things I did regarding medical care (i.e. coverage provided by "Obamacare"). However, he wanted this without raising taxes (on the very richest). Sadly, when you are deep in the red, you can only recover financially by cutting your expenses and raising your income (i.e. higher taxes on those who can best afford them, the really wealthy).

waste them resources, who cares?

There will be future generations. We can't keep burning through every fucking resource simply for profit or because no one has the incentive to have renewable alternatives. Contrary to what some folks I know hoped, we were not raptured in 2000 and there is no expectation of a rapture happening any time soon.

Just because a resource is available does not mean we have to exploit that resource. Using helium to inflate birthday balloons is such a misuse of a very finite resource!
